The project consists of the reforestation of 31.0 ha in a publicly owned forest belonging to the Vallejimeno Neighborhood Council, in the province of Burgos. It is a stand organized in three adjoining plots, located in an area with an average slope of around 30%, with a dominant sunny exposure, good soil quality, with no appreciable extreme erosion processes, in a region with abundant sessile pine and oak forests. There are usually deer and some livestock. The area of action was initially covered with heather of an average height of 2m. All the plots have been installed with the same model. A mixed plantation of conifers and hardwoods has been carried out, with a density of 1,100 ft/ha (10% Pinus pinaster, 80% Pinus silvestres, 5% Sorbus aria and 5% Sorbus aucuparia) in a regular 3x3 frame, installing the hardwoods in copses in the areas with less stony ground and watercourses. Oak has been avoided, because it regenerates naturally in this area, and resin pine has been introduced because it is more resistant to periods of drought. Opening of holes with a back spade, previous clearing with a chain brush cutter, respecting the oak and pine regeneration, manual planting. Installation of 1.5 m. tubex protectors in the foliage to prevent deer damage to the regeneration, and the entire perimeter has been fenced, by plots, to prevent cattle intrusion. The plant complies with all the quality and origin requirements established by the JCyL for this type of restoration. A track has been built to allow access during the planting work, as well as to serve as a defense against forest fires. Other secondary uses in expansion are hunting and mycological exploitation. This is a rural area with a high landscape and ethnographic value that suffers from depopulation, with an economy based on rural tourism, timber harvesting and some livestock farming, with a long timber tradition. The expected absorptions for a period of 40 years are 4,404 t CO2 eq, with 801 t CO2 eq available, of which 500 t CO2 eq have already been withdrawn. The plots have a special plan with a time horizon of 40 years in which the planned works have been the replacement of the stubble and penetration pruning. The management of the forest is usually done with the company CRECE, which is in charge of advising the Neighborhood Council, and proposes interventions through state and regional aid. The land and the flight belong to the Neighborhood Council, but the emissions have been acquired by a private individual who trades with them.
