REFORESTA Las Asperillas

Reforesta is a non-profit association founded in 1991 and declared of Public Utility. Its projects prioritise the restoration of vegetation cover and soil, also favouring fauna and the ecosystem as a whole. In 2020, Reforesta has 25 active reforestation projects, in which it has planted 36845 trees and in which more than 10,000 volunteers have participated. In its project on the Vereda de las Asperillas Livestock Route, in Villamanrique de Tajo (Madrid), between 2018 and 2019, nearly 900 Quercus ilex, Quercus coccifera, Juniperus Thurifera and Rhamnus lycioides were planted, with a survival rate of 30%, which demonstrates the difficult conditions of the site. In 2020 an additional 1250 trees were planted, including species such as Atriplex halimus, Retama shaerocarpa, Tamarix sp. and Vella psuedocytisus. This is a very degraded area, with very poor soils and very low publiometry, so a great effort is required to achieve forest formation.
