Since 1992, the Brown Bear Foundation (FOP) has been carrying out actions for the conservation and restoration of habitats of interest to the species, monitoring of the bear population, research applied to management, the fight against poaching and environmental training and education. In the action area of the Brown Bear Corridors project, in Asturias, conservation and ecosystem restoration actions are carried out, including reforestation with the objectives of creating dispersed woodlands to provide food for the bears and developing corridors to facilitate connectivity between bear populations. The project planted 17,500 cherry and chestnut trees on 30.8 ha of 70 abandoned farms on the Asturian side of the Leitariegos corridor (Asturias). In addition, the project seeks to promote coexistence between human activities and bears, hold training sessions and meetings with the social actors in the area, and promote the use of local labor to contribute to the economic development of the area.
