Operation CO2 Muntanya D'Alinya

The Fundació Catalunya la Pedrera manages 27 natural spaces distributed throughout Catalonia with the aim of protecting and conserving ecosystems. In the Muntanya d'Alinyà Natural Area, with a surface area of 5400 ha, located in the municipality of Fígols i Alinyà, province of Lleida, the LIFE Operation CO2 project was implemented with the main objective of demonstrating the viability of forestry and agroforestry management actions as measures to increase carbon sequestration in Europe. The project implementation area has an area of 3.44 ha, in which a restoration with tree species has been carried out, using species such as Quercus pyrenaica, Fraxinus angustifolia, Salix atrocinerea and Quercus ilex, with an expected density of 700 feet per hectare; a restoration of a degraded area with shrub and herbaceous species, with a density of 900 feet per hectare; and a plantation of apple trees has been established.
