Fénix - Sierra de la Muela

Project implemented by ARBA Cartagena in the Regional Park of the Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñoso and Roldán. The intervention proposal is mainly based on the restoration of a burned area in the Sierra de la Muela, with the recovery of an area of 6 ha for the establishment of potential habitats of community interest in the area: Juniperus sp. pl. arborescent scrub and Tetraclinis articulata forests. By 2020, some 3,000 trees and shrubs had been planted. The aim of the Fénix Project is to transform the current configuration of the forest of La Muela, which corresponds to a monospecific stand of Aleppo pine from reforestation. The result is a complex forest with the presence of a multitude of different species, and resistant to both fire and pests, especially the pine borer, through the introduction of climax and companion species of the different habitats mentioned. The team is made up entirely of volunteers who dedicate their free time to this non-profit work.
