The aim of this project is the improvement of the ecological corridor of southeast Madrid, which would connect the central section of the Guadarrama with the Casa de Campo and the forests of El Pardo. An association of local residents is the driving force behind the reforestation of approximately 100 hectares of the old livestock trail. Permits for this area have been obtained from the regional government and the river authorities; a further 800 hectares belongs to the ministry of defence and a local town council.
More than 10,000 saplings have been planted since the start of the project in 2013, following strict ecological criteria; various types of oak have been planted in dry areas and riverside woodland species along the banks of the streams.
