CO2 Forest Management Tierra de Campos

The project consists of the reforestation of 37.0 ha in a privately owned forest belonging to the company GESFORMA, in the town of Támara de Campos, in the province of Palencia. It is a stand organized in two intermingled plots, with different planting models defined according to the terrain. In the area with moderate slopes and variable exposures, a mixed plantation of conifers and hardwoods was carried out, with a density of 1,600 ft/ha (40% Pinus halepensis, 38% Pinus pinea, 20% Juniperus thurifera and 2% Prunus dulcis) with an irregular 3x2 frame, installing the plant in a foot-by-foot mixture. Soil preparation with double subsoiling, with no need for prior clearing, and manual planting. In the areas with the steepest slopes and variable exposure. A conifer plantation with a density of 1,100 ft/ha (38% Pinus nigra, 42% Pinus pinea, and 20% Juniperus thurifera) was carried out with a regular 3x3 frame, installing the plant in a stand-by-stand mix. Land preparation with back spading, with no need for prior clearing, and manual planting. The plant complies with all the quality and origin requirements established by the Junta de Castilla y León for this type of restoration. The main objective of the plantation is the restoration of degraded land with developing erosion processes that are causing significant soil loss. This is a rural area with a high ethnographic value that suffers from depopulation, with an economy based on rural tourism and agriculture. The expected absorptions for a period of 35 years are 6,864 t CO2 eq, with 1,248 t CO2 eq available, of which none has been withdrawn. The plots have a special plan with a time horizon of 35 years, in which the work of replanting, thinning and pruning has been foreseen. The land, the flight and the absorptions are owned by the company GESFORMA, which is also in charge of their management through its own means.
