Biesca Ingeniería, a company specialising in providing forestry and environmental engineering and consultancy services in Asturias, has received the FSC Ecosystem Services claim for demonstrating the positive impacts of its responsible management practices. Biesca has achieved certification under the FSC Ecosystem Service standard for Carbon Sequestration and Storage actions on an area of 239.74 ha. The managed forest is composed of small forest patches or low intensity management that act as an important carbon sink, located in the municipality of Santo Adriano, in the Natural Park of Las Ubiñas-La Mesa. In addition, in order to collaborate in the conservation of the brown bear, Biesca has carried out actions in the municipalities of Santo Adriano and Teverga, in the Las Ubiñas-La Mesa Natural Park, aimed at improving its habitat thanks to repopulation with native species of fruit trees, as well as working hand in hand with the Wild Animal Protection Fund (FAPAS) to prevent poaching of bears. These actions achieved diversity conservation certification by restoring species diversity over an area of 976.27 ha.
